Your Madeira: Islands for all seasons

From your very first glimpse out of the plane window, Madeira makes a dramatic and lasting impression. Watch a spectacular volcanic landscape of cliffs and gullies unfold beneath you. The mountains are covered with ancient forest, protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Lush and green all year round thanks to the mild subtropical climate, the island’s natural beauty is the setting for man-made treasures too – cutting-edge design hotels, handsome country houses, world-class restaurants and buzzing nightlife await. Throw in the opportunity for adventure, spa facilities and a calendar full of festivals, and you have all the ingredients for the perfect island holiday.

I have never thought of this as a possible destination, but it looks fantastic. I think a trip for the geology alone is a must!

@Bokkie, It will not be more than 10 eur the taxi and either way you will be very really welcome. The price for the afternoon tea will be 29 eur per person.

A Taxi will not be very expensive from teh harbour to Reids Hotel. Take a yellow taxi and they all have meters.
Maybe Euro 5-6 will be the price.

WOW! I’ve never been to Madeira and to be honest – it wasn’t really on my travel radar, but these are great videos – and have completely changed my opinion. Who knew Madeira was this cool! It just looks so beautiful. Great site, love the photography, and now I know Easyjet fly there – I can feel a long weekend coming on! What’s Christmas like there?

Hi Andre – Thanks for all your kind comments on the site. Christmas and especially New Year are very special in Madeira – did you know that we have one of the world’s best firework displays over Funchal Harbour on New Year’s Eve? Obviously as it’s warm here all year round you’ll not find a white Christmas, but we reckon we more than make up for it with the beautiful decorated streets, markets and great food and drink.

You will find golden sandy beaches in Calheta and Machico, as well as a 9km stretch of golden beach on Porto Santo – a 2 hour ferry ride or 10 minute flight away!
